Village Nutrition, a local health-food store owned and operated by David & Cheryl Cohen, has adopted raw milk into its regular stock; the first store in the area to do so. Supplied by the Wilson Ranch, courtesy of Dr. Robert & Nan Wilson, the product attempts to fill a previous void for those health-conscious patrons of the local community.
Speaking to store manager, Melanie Saunders, she expressed the long-standing desire of consumers for fresher and more natural products of all types-with raw honey being one of the store's best sellers. The availability of the milk comes off the heels of David Cohen's lobbying for changes to the laws surrounding the sale of raw milk in Arkansas. Speaking to lawmakers at the Saline County Legislative Breakfast, Cohen successfully rallied for alterations to the regulations by removing the previous 500-gallon limit farmers were able to sell. In addition, Senate Bill 464 allows nutrition food stores to provide consumers with raw milk directly; rather than the previous policy of sale-by-farm only.
Saunders described the product as "richer" and "creamier" than other commercial alternatives. The raw milk is independently lab tested by the Wilsons through Robert's dentistry, the only tested option in the state, and is aimed at providing the safest possible avenue of consumption to consumers.
